Jacksonville Humane Society

Jacksonville Humane Society
The Jacksonville Humane Society has served our community since 1885. JHS became a no-kill shelter in 2005 and our city achieved no-kill status in 2014. In addition to finding loving families for more than 9,000 homeless dogs and cats each year, JHS offers a wide variety of health and human services for families. JHS has a robust pet safety net program that keeps pets and people together in times of crisis, which serves more than 3,000 families each year. This includes our veterinary services division, which provides affordable veterinary care to low-income families and performs community outreach to underserved areas of our city. JHS also has a thriving humane education program for children and adults of all ages. JHS is proud to serve pets and the people who love them.

We are proud to provide the community with pet adoption, humane education opportunities and resources for pets and people in need. The mission of the Jacksonville Humane Society is to provide comfort, care, and compassion to the homeless animals in Jacksonville while engaging the hearts, hands and minds of our community. JHS strives to be a resource for both pets and their owners. In 2019, the Jacksonville Humane Society took in 8,916 dogs and cats, and accomplished the following:
  • Found new homes for 7,325 pets
  • Performed 7,751 spay/neuter surgeries
  • Provided resources for pets to 3,463 low-income families
  • Served 1,699 children via our humane education programs
  • Gave 162,383 pounds of pet food to families in need
